10 Ways I Am #RockingMotherhood

by

I was recently tagged by the lovely Maria at Suburban Mum and Sarah at Mum and Mor to do the #RockingMotherhood tag. I’ve noticed quite a few bloggers doing it but if you haven’t heard of it before, then the #RockingMotherhood tag idea came from the lovely Pat at White Camellias. After she wrote a great post about the 10 ways she is rocking motherhood she came up with the idea of getting more people involved with it. After all we are all rocking motherhood in some way or another.

So here are 10 ways I am #Rockingmotherhood

  1. My little girl is almost 2.5 years old and still alive. I think that shows that I must be doing something right! Before having Clem I had never held a baby or even really thought about children. But as soon as she arrived it felt completely natural.
  2. I don’t mind being sleep deprived if it means she gets a good nights sleep. Even if it means getting up 5 times in the middle of the night to make sure she is ok. I let her jump in our bed, snuggle down and take up all the bed and I don’t mind because secretly I like those snuggles. They won’t last forever.
  3. She is polite. Manners cost nothing and are so important. She knows to say thank you and please.
  4. Every day I make sure I tell her that I love her. Yesterday she told me I was her best friend and my heart melted. Although today she informed me her unicorn toy is now her best friend so I guess I’m easily replaceable.
  5. She might be 2.5 years old but we are still breastfeeding. I really hope no one takes this one the wrong way. I have nothing against formula, as long you and baby are happy then do whatever is best for you. It’s only once a day, at night-time, and the boobies aren’t really working anymore. Clem’s words not mine, so I know the end is coming . I must admit I never imagined our journey with it lasting this long. I almost gave up after 3 days, but now I am so glad I didn’t.
  6. I’ve slowly been introducing Clem to the world of rock/metal/alternative music so we are quite literally #rockingmotherhood. I am a big music fan and so is Clem. We regularly have little dance parties in the kitchen to Fall Out Boy, Paramore or The Black Keys. She is also quite keen on Deftones and Coheed and Cambria.
  7. I’m not afraid to be silly around her. I’m quite a shy person but if I have to sing as we walk down the street, or run around in a park screaming about monsters or getting stuck in a soft play area then I do it. Seeing her smile and laugh makes it worth it. If I’m honest I probably love soft play more than her. I’m quite a big kid really.
  8.  I like to think I’m a calm parent. I try to not get too worked up about things. Whilst I was pregnant friends would comment on how relaxed I was, and it hasn’t really changed. I try not to get worked up about things. Dr Google is never the answer, and will only make things worse.
  9. My little girl is happy and healthy. She recently had her 30 month check with the health visitor and she did so well.
  10. Clems dad is the best partner I could ever have, and without him I probably wouldn’t be the mum I am. He is supportive, hard-working and above all else loving and caring. He is a brilliant dad to Clem and she completely adores him. She even waits by the front door for him to come in from work on days when he has been in the office.

As a parent it’s often hard to focus on the positives, I try to not compare myself to others but it’s hard. When other people are saying their child is potty trained/sleeping through the night/walking/talking and you just about manage to get dressed by lunchtime it can be tough. You just have to remember not everyone is the same, it’s good to be different. I’ve never really been one to ‘follow the crowd’ so to speak. My bright hair isn’t the norm, I have had the odd stare and comment from other mums but I’ve ignored it. My little girl is happy and so am I.

So I am tagging

Becky over at Sparkly Mummy
Kaye at Hello Archie
Bridget at Bridie by the sea and
Emily at My Petit Canard

plus anyone else who would love to take part.

  1. What a lovely read! We do often beat ourselves up without remembering all the good things. I’ve tried in vain to get my son into rock music, but he’s obsessed with Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off so I think he might be a lost cause! Ha! #dreamteam

  2. I love the idea of this tag. We mums need to take a moment to give ourselves a little high five every now and again. It sounds like you seriously are rocking this motherhood thing lovely and I think it’s really touching that Clem’s Dad features as your number 10 as a supportive other half makes such a difference. Thanks for sharing with #DreamTeam x

  3. This is lovely, that’s what I call my positive read of the day. I fully agreed on breastfeeding: my first child didn’t take the breast, but my baby girl does and I’m plaanning to carry on as long as they “work”, but probably stopping around two.
