5 TV shows I’ve been watching recently

by

When it’s wet and grey outside there is only one thing I want to do – sit on the sofa with a blanket and watch tv. Having previously worked in Blockbusters and HMV, I’ve always been a big fan of tv/film. As a family we are also signed up to both Netflix and Amazon Prime so we have quite a lot to pick from. So I thought I would do a post about the top 5 tv shows I have been watching recently.

RuPauls Drag Race

If you haven’t heard of this before then it’s basically a drag version of Americas Next Top Model. Hosted by RuPaul, a group of drag queens compete for the title of Americas Best Drag Superstar. I used to be obsessed with ANTM but for some reason it’s taken me many years to watch this. But now that I’ve started I can’t stop, watching a couple of episodes a night. I absolutely love it! It makes me wish I was better at make-up, seriously some of these ladies have amazing skills!

Riverdale

If you are a fan of Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars, then this is the show for you. New to Netflix, with an episode being released each week, and it is so good! I am obsessed and so annoyed that we have to wait a week for a new episode. I just want to keep watching it. With characters based on the Archie comics, the story is a murder/mystery/thriller. As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom – and nothing feels the same. Check out the trailer and then rush off to Netflix to start watching.

Gilmore Girls S1-S7 plus A Year in the Life

Again this is another show that I probably should have watched first time around, but didn’t. How on earth I missed it I have no idea. It is right up my street, full of pop culture references, set in the early 00’s and a great cast. I guess I was too busy watching The OC. For those that don’t know about Gilmore Girls, it’s based on the life of Lorelai Gilmore, a single mother, her 16-year-old daughter Rory and the residents of Stars Hollow, the town they live in. The series explores issues of family, friendship and romance, as well as generational divides and social class. Ambition, education, work, love, family, and questions of class are just some of the series’ central concerns.

After a 10 year gap, Netflix did a 4 episode revival showing where the characters are now. I managed to watch all seven series’ just in time for the new episodes to be released.

American Crime Story – The People vs OJ Simpson

I actually watched this when it was on BBC 2 last year so it’s great to see it come to Netflix. If you missed it first time around then definitely check it out. From the guys who make American Horror Story, this first season focuses on the infamous murder trial of OJ Simpson. It takes you inside the O.J. Simpson trial with a look at the legal teams battling to convict or acquit the football legend of double murder. The cast is amazing featuring Cuba Gooding Jr, David Schwimmer, John Travolta and Sarah Paulson.

Vampire Diaries – Season 8

Ok so this isn’t available yet on Netflix but seasons 1-7 are, so if you are in the mood for vampires, werewolves and a lot of drama then watch this. I have been watching The Vampire Diaries since the very beginning, which means for the last 8 years I have been a fan. Following the life of Elena Gilbert, her love for the Salvatore brothers and everyone else in Mystic Falls.

I’m sure I’m probably too old to be this obsessed with it but I am. It’s a bit cheesy at times, but it’s also full of gore and blood. There are no sparkly vampires here, it’s not quite at the level of True Blood but it goes there at times. There have definitely been a fair few hearts ripped out of chests, and heads pulled off. After a couple of seasons of The Vampire Diaries, they started a spin-off called The Originals, based on the original family of Vampires. I have to say that at times The Originals is actually better.

What have you been watching lately? Either on Netflix, Prime or anywhere else, I would love to know. After coming to the end of a few shows I need some new ones to watch.

  1. The only one of these I’ve seen is Gilmore Girls, but I’ve watched that about 10 times, so I think that makes up for not knowing the others! Will check out some of your recommendations though, I’m always up for a new series! x #KCACOLS

  2. I loved loved loved Gilmore Girls and People vs OJ Simpson so maybe we have similar tastes in TV. I keep seeing the advert for Riverdale and being tempted, going to have to add it to my list of things to watch! #kcacols

  7. I have toyed with watching Riverdale, but I am not sure if it will be too “teeny” for me. I am watching a lot of superhero shows at the moment, Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. I am also watching the Walking Dead.
