How to Beat a Blogging Block

by

Ever get that feeling like you just want to stop blogging and give up? I was feeling like that not that long ago. I hit a bit of a wall with posts. I was worried my blog isn’t actually that interesting and no one reads my posts. Now I know this is silly because I do get views and comments but sometimes you can’t help the way you feel. I’m sure others have felt like this and I won’t be the only one. I guess I was just having one of those moments. Bonus points if you get the gif reference.

So what do you do when you feel like you have a blogging block?

  1. What should you blog about? Knowing what you’re interested in is the first place to start when it comes to thinking about what kind of content you want to create for your blog. Why not take a notebook and write down some of your interests, hobbies, recipes, favourite things, other things you enjoy reading on other blogs.
  2. Write draft titles. I do this a lot. In fact I have about 10 different posts all started and just waiting to be finished. When I feel like blogging I can either start a new post or go back and look at my drafts.
  3. Get reading. Other blogs, magazines, Reddit, books, whatever will give you inspiration. Personally I am a big fan of Bloglovin. It’s great for finding new blogs to follow.
  4. Don’t stress. If you find yourself getting annoyed and worked up about not being able to blog – step away. I took the time out, went on a mini break away from the computer and social media. It gave me to time to really think about what I want to write about.
  5. Just write. So what if it’s rubbish. You can delete it and start again. Write for yourself, stop thinking of the readers. I love reading honest, open, and truthful posts. I’m nosey, I like to know what other people are doing. If you are happy with it then others probably will be as well.
  6. Revisit old posts. Can’t think of new things to write? Go back right to the beginning, I bet you can find lots of things to change. I know that I could.

If all of that fails then pinterest is full of posts giving you loads of prompts to write about. Whilst not ideal, it might be a good way to get the creativity flowing again. Personally I found taking the time off to think about what I really wanted to write about was good. I’m now more focused, and ready to start blogging again.

  1. Great tips. I’ve had bloggers block for a while now but my reason is because I am heavily pregnant and can’t stay in my chair for too long!

  2. I think this happens to us all! Writing drafts, even if it’s just the title, really helps me, and also letting go of things being perfect. I’d never have thought to revisit old posts – yup, I reckon I’d cringe a bit reading them (or more likely cringe at the photos!) #marvmondays

  3. Fab tips, blogging blocks are the worst. I used to suffer alot but thankfully somehow over the past few months I’ve got a long list of posts I need to get through – but I know there’ll come a time again where I’m fresh out of ideas. >_< Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

  4. You’ve got some good ideas here. Some days I have lots of ideas and at other times that blogging block looms. #MarvMondays

  5. I haven’t had this yet, but I sometimes get overwhelmed when I have loads to write and not the time to do it in. These are great tips. I agree that taking a break, even for just a few hours away from writing and social media can help to re focus you. Thank you for linking up to the #DreamTeam. Looking forward to reading more of your posts x
