Brighton Day Out – Mile Oak Farm

by

This week was Clems last one at pre-school before the Easter holidays. She only goes two mornings a week so our Easter holidays started on Thursday. The weather has been lovely the last few days. So we took full advantage of that and visited a local farm. Mile Oak Farm is in the South Downs, near Portslade, just outside of Brighton. If you don’t drive you can get the 1 or 1A bus to Mile Oak. From there it’s about a 15 minute walk to the actual farm.

Down on the farm

The farm is a working one, and is set in some beautiful surroundings. The perfect location for a walk over the South Downs. There is a farm shop and tea room serving cakes, tea and sandwiches. However, the main reason we were there was to see the animals. Clem is quite a big fan of chickens, sheep and goats and we were in luck. Whilst the area with the animals is quite small this meant it was perfect for little ones. You can really get up close and see them. There are donkeys, horses, sheep, a goat, a peacock and many chickens just wandering around. In fact I’ve never seen such a friendly goat. She couldn’t get enough of the strokes and attention Clem was paying her.

I have to say I was really impressed with our visit. It’s not somewhere you would spend all day. But if you are local it’s great for an hour or more if you decide to go for a walk. I can also recommend the food in the tea shop. We had lunch from there and it was good, apart from a seagull stealing half of Clems sandwich! They also sell some amazing looking homemade chutney and jams. However the best thing about the farm – it’s free!! Obviously if you buy food and drink then it isn’t but you can wander around and see the animals for free.
