Now you are three – Happy Birthday!

by

Clem, today is your third birthday. You are now three! I can’t quite believe I have a 3-year-old. You are no longer a baby or a toddler but a pre-schooler. In fact, you’ve been one for the last 6 months, but I’ve been desperately clinging onto the toddler phase. It wasn’t until looking back over photos for this post that I have realised just how much you have changed in those 6 months. You are becoming a confident little girl who loves everything, especially talking.

At the end of last year we moved house, from Surrey, down to the coast in Hove. Since doing that Clem has become even more of an outdoors kid. She loves playing out in the garden or going to any of the local parks. The beach is always a good choice as well. In fact she even loves going up to her uncle’s allotment and digging around to see what vegetables he has grown. Pre-school has really helped her confidence. She loves going there, and from September will be going for longer. She can’t wait to go back! Every morning she keeps asking if it’s time for school. I’m sure that will change as she gets older!

Reading is still a big part of our daily routine, we read a book or three every night before bed. Her speech is coming on in leaps and bounds. Every day we hear a new word or sentence. Most of the time it’s hard to stop her talking! She even talks in her sleep some nights. She is a big fan of the iPad and Netflix. Paw Patrol and My Little Pony are her favourite shows to watch at the moment. I’m just glad we are finally moving away from Peppa and Ben & Holly.

Clem is also becoming a bit of a Disney fan which I am fully encouraging. I love Disney films, especially The Little Mermaid and Lion King so I don’t mind watching those. She is also becoming quite a fan of singing and dancing, so I’m going to start looking into some sort of dance class for her. As I think she will really enjoy it. If anyone knows of any in the Brighton area that is good for a 3-year-old then please let me know.

If anyone is looking for an awesome cake shop in the Brighton area then please check out Cloud 9. I’ve mentioned them many times before but seriously they are so good.

Although I never actually mentioned it on here we were doing potty training. Well, it was a huge success and we are now completely nappy free during the day and night. We’ve only had a few accidents which has been amazing. Potty training was one of the things I really wasn’t looking forward to but we took it slowly. We didn’t want to make it a big thing, and we also wanted to make sure that Clem was ready for it. I took her shopping for big girl pants, she picked out some Frozen ones. I got her a toilet seat and step for Christmas that had Peppa Pig on which I think helped. She now either sits on the potty or gets her step and climbs onto the toilet herself. Her pre-school were great as well, and she was out of nappies just a few weeks into starting there. It was at that point that I realised she wasn’t a baby anymore!

I have to confess that it has actually taken me a very long time to write this post. It was meant to be published on her actual birthday not a week later! But I’ve been ill and haven’t felt up to blogging. We’ve hardly left the house all week but now I am finally starting to feel better.

  1. Ahhhh, happy (belated) anniversary, Clem!

My friend and I (our kids are just shy of two and a half) were saying yesterday that they’re not toddlers any more… but not officially preschoolers yet. It feels like there should be another word for this in-between time, rather than just “child”.
