Stranger Things – Netflix Original Drama

by

Clem has never been a wonderful sleeper. In the past she has been known to wake up every 20 minutes or so all through the night. I can’t remember the last time I had a decent nights sleep, probably almost 2 years ago now! However recently she has really improved which has given us the time to spend as a couple again doing the things we used to enjoy. For us this means playing video games, watching films and catching up on all the TV programmes we have missed! Despite us having a long list of things to catch up on sometimes something new comes along and just grabs you. If you have a Netflix account you might have heard of Stranger Things.

When a young boy disappears, his mother, the town sheriff, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.

That is all I am going to give you about the plot for this awesome new series on Netflix. I didn’t know anything about it until I saw people talking about it on Facebook and Twitter. I didn’t watch a trailer I just knew from the poster that I wanted to watch it.

Stranger Things is set in a town in 1983 America. Without giving too much away a boy goes missing in the first episode. A lot of other weird stuff happens too! In fact, and I’m slightly embarrassed about this, I’ve watched a few scenes from behind my hands as its creeped me out! I love horror films but when it’s psychological and you don’t know what to expect or when it freaks me out.

The series is like a cross between ET, the Goonies, Stand by Me, Poltergeist and Aliens. There are elements of Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. The soundtrack is amazing! Synth electro pop, the geeky references to D&D, the fashion, music, it’s all done so well. Also that poster! It’s like an old VHS cover. I love it!

The cast is amazing, considering the only person I know from it is Winona Ryder. She is possibly one of my favourite actresses. I loved her in Girl Interrupted, Heather’s and Beetlejuice. She hasn’t done anything in a while so it’s nice to see her back. The kids are all amazing! Each one brilliant in their own way.

So if you like the 80’s or any of those films I listed, a Netflix account and a few hours to spare, there are only 8 episodes. If I had the time I would have probably binge watched the whole thing in a night whilst keeping a cushion to hand! In the end we actually watched the whole thing over a couple of nights!

Has anyone else started watching this? If you have what do you think? Or do you think there is anything else I should be watching, please let me know in the comments 🙂
