I was tagged by Louise who blogs at My Three and Me to take part in the Shuffle the music challenge. Music is a big part of my life, I listen to it every single day. When I’m cooking, cleaning, working and walking, I have music on. I’ve had a Spotify account for quite a while now, and I love making playlists on there. I have them for different genres and moods.
For this challenge I decided to put on my All Sorts playlist, which is mostly 90’s/00’s pop and rock. It’s cheesy and has a lot of songs you can sing along to. Here are the first 12 songs that came on.
I’m not okay (I promise) – My Chemical Romance
Technically I was probably too old for the emo explosion that happened in the early to mid 00’s however I loved it. I didn’t go quite as far as the skinny jeans, I still lived in my baggy skater ones, but I definitely over did it on the eyeliner and red eyeshadow. I could probably write a whole post just on my love of emo music, don’t worry I won’t – yet.
As soon as this comes on I can’t help sing along. If any of my neighbours are reading this – I’m sorry, and really I’m okay!
Rollin’ – Limp Bizkit
Limp Bizkit were one of the first alternative bands I got into. There is no denying they have some classic songs, this being one of them. I was just getting into rock/metal music when Limp Bizkit came out. Although they have released a few albums, the first two are the best in my opinion.
Beating heart baby – Head Automatica
I’m pretty sure everyone had this as their song on MySpace at one point, I know I did. I definitely had some of the lyrics as my msn screen name. I basically heard this because of the singers other band – Glassjaw. This brings back memories of visiting friends at uni and going to rock clubs.
Silver – Hundred Reasons
This band was probably one of my most seen in the early 00’s. They were always in Exeter, and at festivals that I went to. I was pretty gutted when they announced they were breaking up. Although they have since done a few anniversary shows. I saw them in 2012 at The Fighting Cocks in Kingston play their first album in full. Whilst trying to find a video for this song I actually came across one on YouTube from when they played in 2004. I saw them that day and I actually spotted myself in the video, wearing pink and having bright red hair was not a good combo!
It’s gonna be me – N’Sync
The song that spawned a thousand memes. I will admit that I was more of an american boy band fan than British. Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, even New Kids on the Block were my thing. This also came out when I was definitely in my rock/metal phase but it was just so catchy.
Shake it off – Taylor Swift
I don’t think this needs the video, if you haven’t heard this song then have you been living in a cave? Clem has become quite a big of fan of Miss Swift. She’s obsessed with the film Sing which features this song. Personally I’m not a huge fan but because Clem likes her then I’ve listened to her a lot.
Ain’t it fun – Paramore
Paramore are one of those bands that I feel I shouldn’t like but do. I feel like I might be a bit too old to be a fan of them. Hayley’s hair is just amazing. The video for this is really fun as well. I’ve liked pretty much every thing they have released, and when it comes on in a rock club you can’t help dance along.
My Shot – Hamilton soundtrack
Hamilton is one of my favourite musicals. I saw it in London at the beginning of the year and I am desperate to go back and see it again. It definitely lived up to the hype.
Sugar we’re going down – Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy are one of my favourite bands. I know a 34-year-old shouldn’t say that but I can’t help it. They might not be as good as they used to be. The latest albums aren’t really my thing but they are pretty good live. I’ve seen them quite a few times now and I’ve loved each time.
Ghetto Superstar – pras, odb, mya
Now this song is definitely showing my age. This was on the soundtrack to the film Bulworth back in 1998. Around this time my music taste was pop and r n b. I remember listening to this at school discos.
Just Like A Pill – P!nk
P!nk is easily one of my favourite singers of all time. I’ve loved everything she has done. Not only is she an amazing singer but she is also an amazing performer. Anyone who can sing live whilst swinging around on a trapeze or down the side of a building is pretty amazing. I once saw her live as part of a one big weekend for radio 1. She is definitely on the list of artists I would like to see again.
Welcome Home – Coheed and Cambria
Coheed and Cambria are one of my favourite bands of all time. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen them live. We even have a framed photo on our wall from one of the gigs we went to. We are actually going to see them again in a few weeks time in London. They have a new album out then as well which I cannot wait to get.
