Life Lately – Fools Spring in February

by

I know we are well into March now but I’m just going to take a little look back at February. If you look at my Instagram you will see that February was pretty sunny. Not just sunny but actually warm. It was the hottest February for a very long time. It was almost like Summer had arrived very early! Actually it was just a Fools Spring. Now it’s back to cold, grey and wet.

February actually started off with snow for us. Well not really in Brighton, but we went to Devon for a weekend and on the way down experienced some seriously heavy snow. We saw people stuck on the A303, the opposite side of the road completely disappeared at one point due to how heavy it was. Then suddenly we were passed it and the fields turned back to green.

Our weekend away in Devon was short but nice. We went for walks in the woods, spent some time in the hot tub and we also saw some of the local area. I grew up around there and I definitely didn’t appreciate the views and countryside/coast as I do now when we go back to visit. It was after our trip to Devon that Fools Spring decided to show up. We actually had nice weather for half-term. My mum came to visit for some of the week which was nice. We spent time on the beach, we ate ice cream and played in the arcades on the pier.

Blue skies, smilin’ at me
Nothin’ but blues skies do I see

I also worked on a collaboration with Wriggle to get people using their lunchboxes more. The idea behind the campaign is to reduce the amount of single use plastic that is used daily. They very kindly sent me a bamboo lunchbox which are available to buy for just £5. You can then take it into participating venues and they will fill your box with yummy food. Obviously you can use your own lunchbox as well, you don’t have to use the Wriggle one.

March came rushing along and already we are almost 2 weeks into it. Last week was pancake day. But instead of having them at home I met Jesse for lunch and we headed to Black Mocha in North Laine. It’s right by Jesses office so he regularly buys coffee there but he hadn’t eaten in before. Although it appears small don’t let that put you off. There is seating at the back and upstairs, and we didn’t struggle to find a table. Although we did go on a weekday lunchtime, I’ve been in there on weekends and it is definitely busier then.

They offer a great range of food from pastries, granola to full breakfasts, soups and sandwiches. They also do an amazing ultimate hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows and honeycomb. As it was pancake day they had a special pancake menu and after spying the chocolate banana ones I just had to have them. Jess decided to go for the full veggie breakfast which looked amazing when it came to the table.

I will admit I did have food envy at first. But my pancakes were super yummy, and the blueberries were nice a surprise. If you ever need to meet someone for brunch or a coffee in Brighton then definitely check out Black Mocha on Gloucester Rd, North Laine.
