Zippos Circus are back with a brand new show for 2018 – Legacy. Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the circus, the show is a 2 hour spectacle filled with extraordinary equestrians, astonishing acrobats, comic clowns and dashing daredevils.
We went along to the show last year and absolutely loved it. Clem noticed the big top arrive on the seafront at the beginning of the week and immediately got excited! Once again we were offered tickets in exchange for a review of the show, however all views are my own. Although we had been before, we still had no idea what to expect as it’s a new show. We were happy to see a few returning acts from the previous year. Ringmaster, Norman Barrett, MBE, was back with his budgies, which Clem was really pleased about, and the impressive Khadikov Riders were also back. The rest of the show was completely different.
The show features modern clown Totti and his wife, Charlotte, as well as Brazilian Capoeira comic acrobat Paulo Dos Santos. Another hit of the show for me was Pablo who performed in the Big Top atop a dazzling Space Rocket. Cuban acrobats the Hermansito Troupe, showing off their Springboard skills and Mexico’s hoola-hoop artiste Fernanda Sumano also brings her dynamic performance to the ring. She was also a favourite of Clems.
However, I think the most daring part of the show was Alex Michael. A fearless Brazilian aerialist who swings and walks upside down 30 feet above the audience with no safety nets or wires. At one point I (and the rest of the audience) thought he was going to fall. The tent was silent, until that moment when all you could hear were gasps from everyone. The future of circus is not forgotten at Zippos Circus. A couple of the acts have their children performing in the show. It just goes to show that the circus will go on for many years to come.
Split into two acts with an interval, the show didn’t feel long. It lasts for 2 hours. They are doing two shows a day, apart from the final day with just one in the afternoon. Zippos Circus can be found on Hove Lawns next to the King Alfred Leisure Centre until August 28th. You can also get up to 30% off by using the code BRN30.
